It also takes time for the raw files to process. I also convert non essential raws to jpg files for keeping. I process about 1000-2000 raw files a month and discard most. I have also had a possible partial disk failure sorted by Apple. The way I use my computer, my 16GB of memory is always fully utilised and the swap file is usually around 2-3 Gigabytes. SSD's have a finite number of disk writes. Is that the only reason not to import straight into LR and cull there? Why would it put pressure on the SSD? The reason is to put less pressure on SSD writes on a 4 year old MacBook Pro. I am trialling Raw file viewer (RFV) for culling wildlife images before importing to Lightroom.
